DELAGE, Yves. French zoologist and biologist, born in Avignon on 13 May 1854, died in Sceaux on 7 October 1920, director of the zoological laboratory in Roscoff.
He conducted research and studies on artificial parthenogenesis, the processes of maturation of the ovular cytoplasm, and the development of cirripedes. In his work on heredity and the problems of general biology, he acknowledged that the theory of evolution is not demonstrable and that only philosophical prejudice can decide to accept II. He wrote: L'hérédité et les grands problèmes de la biologie générale (Paris 1903) and, in collaboration with M. Goldstein, Les théories de l'évolution (ibid. 1909), La parthénée naturelle et expérimentale (ibid. 1913).
