DELAGE, YVES. – French zoologist and biologist, born in Avignon on 13 May 1854, died in Sceaux on 7 October 1920, director of the zoology laboratory at Roskoff.
He is responsible for research and studies on artificial parthenogenesis, the processes of maturation of the ovular cytoplasm, and the development of cirripedes. In his work on heredity and the problems of biology, he acknowledges that the theory of evolution cannot be demonstrated and that only a philosophical presupposition can decide one to accept II. He wrote: L'hérédité et les grands problèmes de la biologie générale (Paris 1903) and, in collaboration with M. Goldsmith, Les théories de l'évolution (there 1909), La parthénogénèse naturelle et expérimentale (there 1913).
