DAUGHTERS OF THE DIVINE SAVIOUR (Buenos Aires). - Mother Maria Antonia de la Paz y Figueroa, in 1795, had founded a “beaterio,” that is, an association of pious persons who, while not taking vows, lived a common life under the guidance of a superior, with the aim of promoting the Spiritual Exercises of s. Ignazio among the faithful, gathering those who wished to attend in suitable houses. The initiative lived and developed, first merely as a society approved by the government, then as a pious society which, in 1878, Msgr. Mariano Giuseppe de Escalada, archbishop of Buenos Aires, erected into a religious Congregation with simple vows.
On 19 May 1933 the Institute received the decree of praise and the temporary approval of its constitutions; definitive approval followed on 26 Jan. 1942. Besides the work of the exercises, the sisters devote themselves to preserving young women from the dangers of evil, receiving them into special schools. In 1947 it had 7 houses with 65 sisters.
