FISCHER, ENGELBERT LORENTZ

FISCHER, ENGELBERT LORENTZ. - Technical philosopher, priest, b. at Aschaffenburg on 12 Oct. 1845, d. as parish priest in Würzburg on 17 Jan. 1923.

In his principal work *Überphilosophie* (Berlin 1907) he attempts to reconcile the oppositions of the various schools in a higher synthesis inspired by Christianity. Thus, while defending creation he does not deny a certain evolution, and while combating pantheism he emphasizes the relations of the world with God. Among his other works are to be noted: *Die Harmonie als Grundsatz des Seins und Lebens* (Würzburg 1920); *Die schöne Seele* (Berlin 1922); etc.
