FONTINALIA. — A festival on 13 October in the ancient Roman calendar, during which fountains were adorned and offerings were cast into springs. The deity of the festival is FONS, who had a temple outside the pomerium, built in 231 BC. An altar of FONS was located near the Janiculum. In myth, FONS or FONTUS is the son of JANUS and JUTURN.
