FONTINALIA. — Festival held on 13 October according to the ancient Roman calendar, during which fountains were crowned and flowers were cast into the springs. The deity of the festival is Fons, who had a temple outside the pomerium, built in 231 B.C. An ara Fontis stood near the Janiculum. In mythology, Fons or Fontus is the son of Janus and Iuturna.
