FRANCISCANS OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION (MODENA). — The Institute arose in 1881 in Palagano, Modena, with the approval of the local Ordinary. On March 8, 1938, Pius XI ordered that the decree of praise be issued and that the constitutions be provisionally approved.
The Institute’s purpose is works of Christian apostolate, the education and instruction of children and young people, and assistance to the elderly. In 1949, the sisters numbered 150, with 20 houses.
