BROTHERS OF SAINT LOUIS GONZAGA. - A lay institute of simple vows, founded in 1849 by Fr. William Hellemons, a Cistercian, parish priest of Oudenbosch, diocese of Breda (Holland). Until 1908 it was under the jurisdiction of the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide. The constitutions were approved for the first time on April 2, 1887, and then definitively on February 21, 1933. The decree of praise was obtained on May 9, 1922.

The special purpose of the Institute is the education of young people, through day schools, boarding schools, orphanages, youth associations, and catechists.

The general house is at Oudenbosch. In 1936 the Institute had 13 houses and 318 brothers.
