BROTHERS OF SAINT ALOYSIUS GONZAGA. — A lay institute of simple vows, founded in 1849 by Fr. Guglielmo Hellemons, Cistercian, parish priest of Oudenboch, Diocese of Breda (the Netherlands). Until 1908 it was under the authority of the S. Congregation of Propaganda Fide. The constitutions were approved for the first time on 2 April 1887 and then definitively on 21 February 1933. The decree of praise was issued on 9 May 1922.
The special purpose of the Institute is the education of young people, through day schools, boarding schools, orphanages, youth associations, and catechists.
The motherhouse is in Oudenboch. In 1936 the Institute had 13 houses and 318 brothers.
