FRANCESCO MARIA da Bruxelles. – Capuchin theologian of the Flemish-Belgian province, born in Brussels in 1665, died in Ghent on 18 Oct. 1713. He entered the Order in Louvain in 1682 and later served as definitor and general commissary.
As professor of theology he provided the schools of the Order with a *Cursus theologiae tripartitus secundum dogmata Augustini, Bonaventurae ac Thomae* (3 vols., Ghent 1698–1707, reprinted in Brussels in 1744); he prepared a second edition, posthumously printed under the title *Theologia Caputno-sacralis* (ibid. 1705–1707 and ibid. 1715–18), in which he aimed to vindicate the sources of the Order’s traditional theology. He opposed Jansenist and anti-papal doctrines in the *Synopsis apocalyptica-cantatrix eventuum praecipuorum Ecclesiae primitiae* (ibid. 1710). As general commissary (1709) he restored peace to the province, which had been disturbed by internal dissensions.
