BROTHERS OF THE SACRED HEART. - Istituto religioso di voti semplici, fondato a Lione nel 1821 dal sacerdote André Coindre (v.), per la cristiana e civile formazione della gioventù in scuole e collegi, onde riparare i danni causati dalla Rivoluzione.The organization of the new institution, however, is due to Brother Hippolyte Gondre, who, endowed with a vivid intellect and broad vision, spread it in France, with as many as 70 schools, and in Canada.

Today the Institute is divided into seven provinces with 170 houses and more than 2,000 religious. It is widespread in almost all the countries of the world but especially in Canada, where it carries on a great deal of activity in the field of education.
