BROTHERS OF THE HOLY FAMILY OF BELLEY. - They were founded in 1835 at Belmont by Gabriel Taborin for the instruction and education of youth and to prepare suitable candidates for service in parishes. For this purpose, on certain days special lessons in singing and sacred liturgy are given.

The Institute was composed at first of laymen, but later priests were also admitted for the spiritual needs of the houses. It was approved by Gregory XVI with a brief of 29 Aug. 1841. After the mother house was transferred to Belley, other foundations soon followed in various cities of France. Because of the destructive laws against religious Congregations they were forced into exile, and they established at Chieri, near Turin, the mother house with a novitiate and a flourishing studentate. At present 600 religious live in 27 houses.
