Coindre, André

COINDRE, ANDRÉ. - Priest, b. in Lyon on 26 Feb. 1787, d. there on 30 May 1826. At the seminary of Argentières he was noted for intelligence and piety. Ordained a priest in 1812, he shone for an oratorical power directed at repairing the damage caused by the French Revolution. Concerned about the future of youth, in 1821 he founded the institute of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart (v.), which his successor Brother Hippolyte Gondré perfected and developed.
