CHRISTO PROFUSUM SANGUINEM

CHRISTO PROFUSUM SANGUINEM. - Hymn of Matins in the common of martyrs, composed of four stanzas taken from the hymn of the Apostles by St. Ambrose. The first verses have undergone some change. Noteworthy are the impetus and energy of the expressions, as well as the boldness of the images. The first stanza is a kind of introduction, an invitation to sing the glory of the martyrs, whose sufferings are depicted in very vivid colors.
