«CHRISTO PROFUSUM SANGUINEM». — Hymn at Matins in the Common of Martyrs, composed of four stanzas taken from the hymn of the Apostles by s. Ambrogio. The opening verses have undergone some alteration. Worthy of note are the force and energy of the expressions, as well as the boldness of the images. The first stanza is a kind of introduction, an invitation to sing the glory of the martyrs, whose sufferings are depicted in highly vivid colours.
