«CHRISTO PROFUSUM SANGUINEM». — Hymn of the Lauds in the Common of Martyrs, composed of four strophes taken from the hymn of the Apostles by St Ambrose. The first verses have undergone some alteration. Noteworthy is the impetus and energy of the expressions, as well as the boldness of the images. The first strophe is a kind of introduction, an invitation to sing the glory of the martyrs, whose sufferings are depicted in very vivid colours.
