GIEZI (Heb. Gēḇāzī; Septuagint = Giezí). - Servant of the prophet Elisha (v.).

When the latter wishes to reward the generous hospitality of the good Shunammite woman, G. suggests to him that the best gift is to obtain a son for her (2 Kings 4:11-17). When the Shunammite woman runs to the prophet because of the sudden death of her unhoped-for son, Elisha sends the solicitous G. to raise him, placing on the boy's face the staff that he entrusts to him. But the resurrection does not take place, and G., disappointed, reports the failure to his master, who was coming with the Shunammite woman and who will accomplish the miracle (2 Kings 4:18-37).

Greed and deceit, on the occasion of the miraculous healing of the Syrian general Naaman, ruined G., who as a punishment ended up a leper (2 Kings 5:20-27). The episode in which G. narrates to Jehoram, king of Judah, the prodigies performed by Elisha (2 Kings 8:1-6) is earlier than the preceding one, for the king would never have allowed a leper to converse with him.
