GIORGIO WARDÀ. – Nestorian hymnographer of the 13th century, originally from Arbela, author of numerous (at least 150) religious hymns, incorporated into the Office of the Chaldean rite.
The collection of his hymns came to be called Wardà (= “rose”), whence his surname. The subjects he treats include the following: penance, prayer, public needs and calamities, the story of Jonah, the Pater Noster, and the apocryphal stories of Jesus’ infancy.
