**LANDO of Sezze, ANTIPOPE.** - Of a family originally from Germany, he was elected to the papacy in September 1179 by the counts of the Roman countryside in opposition to Alexander III, who had succeeded in gaining control of the city. He took the name Innocent III and took refuge with the counts of Palombara. However, at the beginning of 1180, Hugh Pierleoni, sent by Alexander III to take the locality, was delivered up by the counts who were sheltering him in exchange for a sum of money. He was confined to the monastery of Cava, where he ended his days.
