LANDO, GIROLAMO. - Archbishop of Crete (ca. 1458-93), entrusted with a pontifical legation in Silesia and Bohemia (1460-62), titular patriarch of Constantinople (1472-93), died after his resignation in the autumn of 1493. He acquired special merits in his pontifical legation, by bringing the Bohemian king
George of Poděbrady back to pontifical obedience, and in the Synods of Crete, organized by him with the participation of the other Catholic bishops of this island, in the years 1467, 1474, 1486.
The library of S. Marco in Venice still possesses a codex drawn up by him in which the protocols of these synods are described in the Latin language; extensive extracts from this volume were published in Greek translation by Agathangelos Xeruchakis.
