LINNEBORN, JOHANNES. - German ecclesiastical historian, b. 5 March 1867 at Hagen (Westphalia), d. 22 Jan. 1933 at Paderborn. Ordained priest in 1892, he taught in secondary schools, then became professor of canon law at the Academy of Philosophy and Theology of Paderborn in 1910, and subsequently at Bonn in 1918.
From 1909 to 1924 he was director of the Paderborn section of the Verein für westfälische Geschichte und Altertums-
hunde. A member of the Prussian Diet from 1924 to 1933, he belonged to the Centre Party and contributed to the conclusion of the Concordat of 1929 between the Holy See and Prussia. As a scholar, L. was chiefly concerned with the ecclesiastical history of Westphalia. Among his works may be mentioned: Der Zustand der westfälischen Benediktinerklöster vor ihrem Anschluss an die Bursfelder Kongregation (1898); Die Reformation der westfälischen Benediktinerklöster im 15. Jahrhundert (1899); Die Kirchenbaupflicht der Zehnbesitzer im früheren Herzogtum Westfalen (1915); Die kirchliche Baulast im ehemaligen Fürstbistum Paderborn (1917).
