EUSTACHIO MANFREDI. — Mathematician and man of letters, born in Bologna on 20 September 1674, died there on 15 February 1739. He was public lecturer in mathematics at the University of Bologna (1699), pro-rector of the Montalto College (1704), regulator of the waters (1711), and astronomer of the Institute of Sciences (1715), which had then just been founded by a group of scholars whom Manfredi had gathered around him from his youth in his home for scientific and literary purposes under the name of the Accademia degli Inquieti.
