MARCELLINO, COUNT. - Born into a noble family in Illyria, chancellor of the heir apparent Justinian under the emperor Justin I (518-27).

In Constantinople he wrote a Chronicle in Latin covering the years 379-534 of the Eastern Roman Empire. The work was continued down to 548 by an unknown author. He made use of the Historiae of Orosius and of Gennadius' book De viris illustribus. Important for the years from 470 onward. He also wrote an itinerary with topographical information on Constantinople and Jerusalem (v. Cassiodorus, Instit. div. lett., 17: PL 70, 1134).
