PILEO MARINI (DE MARINI), PILEO. - Archbishop, born in Genoa around 1370, died there on 30 September 1433.
Son of a certain Ambrogio, little or nothing is known of his youth. He is found as a canon in Padua and later as an apostolic notary. Boniface IX appointed him to the archiepiscopal see of Genoa at the end of 1400, but, having remained faithful to the legitimate Roman Pontiff, the antipope Benedict XIII, he was removed from his see and succeeded by the Genoese canon Giovanni da Godigliano. The Pisan pope Alexander V restored him in 1409 to his archdiocese, which he then governed peacefully until his death. It is known that he attended the Council of Constance in 1414 and presided over a diocesan synod in 1421. He established in his city a magistracy of mercy, which still exists today, now under the presidency of the pro tempore archbishops.
