MATTHEW CIGALAS. - Greek writer, d. ca. 1642. Of Italian origin, born on the island of Cyprus. From 1630 he is found as parish priest of St. George in Venice.

Here he gave to the press numerous publications, among which are to be noted a historical chronicle from the beginning of the world up to 1637 (Venice 1637), the edition of the Commentary of Theodoret of Cyrrhus on the Song of Songs (ibid. 1639) and the translation of the Synaxarion of Nicephorus Callistus Xanthopoulos (ibid. 1639).
