MAZZINGHI, ANGELO AGOSTINO, blessed. — Carmelite, born in Florence ca. 1380, died on 17 September 1438. Of noble family, he entered the Carmelite Order in 1413 at the Convent of Le Selve near Florence, where shortly before friar Iacopo di Alberto had introduced the strict observance, subsequently joined to that of Mantua.
M. was its principal support. Several times prior of that convent, as well as of the one in Florence, he distinguished himself in apostolic works, as a director of souls, confessor to the nuns of the Portico and, above all, as a popular preacher.
Contemporary authors relate that while M. was preaching, flowers were seen falling from his mouth. Immediately venerated as a saint, he had his cult confirmed by Pope Clement XIII on 3 March 1761. His sacred remains now rest beneath the high altar of the Carmine in Florence.
