MAZZINGHI, ANGELO AGOSTINO, BEATO

MAZZINGHI, Angelo Agostino, Blessed. - Carmelite, b. in Florence ca. 1380, d. September 17, 1438. Of a noble family, he entered the Carmelite Order in 1413 in the Convent of the Selve near Florence, where shortly before Friar Iacopo di Alberto had introduced the strict observance, later united with that of Mantua.

M. was its greatest support. Several times prior of that convent, as well as of the one in Florence, he distinguished himself in works of the apostolate, as a director of souls, confessor of the nuns of the Portico and, above all, as a popular preacher.

Contemporary authors relate that while M. was preaching, flowers were seen falling from his mouth. Immediately venerated as a saint, Pope Clement XIII confirmed his cult on March 3, 1761. His sacred remains now rest beneath the high altar of the Carmine in Florence.
