MINIMS OF THE SACRED HEART. - The Institute had humble beginnings in Poggio a Caiano (diocese of Pistoia) through the work of Marianna Caiani, who, with a companion of hers, in 1894 opened a small school for 12 poor little girls in rented premises.
Soon the work began to develop; other girls joined the first two, who on 15 Dec. 1902, at the hands of the local Ordinary, received the religious habit and were canonically erected into a diocesan institute.
The decree of praise is dated 3 Feb. 1926, together with the temporary approval of the Constitutions, which were then definitively approved on 21 Nov. 1933.
The special purpose of the Institute is the Christian education and instruction of youth. They also devote themselves to the care of the sick in hospitals and at home.
In 1948 the sisters numbered 573 and the novices 43, distributed among 51 houses.
