MINISTERS OF THE SICK. - The Institute arose in 1819, through the work of the servant of God Domenica Brun-Barbantini, in Lucca, and was approved by the local Ordinary in 1841. The following year it was affiliated with the Camillian Order, by which the foundress had also been inspired in drafting the Rules.

It received the decree of praise in 1852 and the approval of the Institute and temporary approval of the Constitutions in 1929. The Constitutions were then definitively approved on 3 Aug. 1937.

Its purpose is the exercise of works of charity toward the sick, both in hospitals and in private homes; care of the elderly in shelters and of wayward girls.

The Institute is composed of about a hundred sisters distributed among 9 houses.
