MINISTRE DEGLI INFERMI. – The Institute arose in 1819 through the work of the Servant of God Domenica Brun-Barbantini in Lucca and was approved by the local Order in 1841. The following year it was affiliated with the Camillian Order, from which the foundress had also drawn inspiration in drafting the Rules.
It received the decree of praise in 1852 and the approval of the Institute and temporary approval of the Constitutions in 1929. The Constitutions were later definitively approved on 3 August 1937.
Its purpose is the exercise of works of charity toward the sick, both in hospitals and in private homes; the care of elderly persons in refuges and of wayward girls.
The Institute is composed of about a hundred sisters distributed across nine houses.
