MOSÈ III SUNETZI. – Katholikós of the Armenians (1628–33), commonly called Tathevatzi because he was educated in the monastery of Tathev.
Eager for study and spiritual asceticism from childhood, he followed the great masters of the time, Serapione Urhayetzi and Gregorio Kesaratzi. Elected katholikós of Egmiadzin, he carried out reforming activity, exercising a great influence on the monastic, cultural, and moral revival of eastern Armenia.
He maintained friendly relations with Pope Urban VIII. He died in a reputation for holiness, and in the history of the Armenian Church he remains a figure of foremost importance.
