PACIFICO OF CERANO, Blessed. - Franciscan, also called P. da Novara, b. at Cerano (Novara) in 1426, d. at Sassari on June 4, 1482.

He was left an orphan at a tender age and was entrusted for his early education to the Benedictines of Novara. In 1445 he enrolled in the Franciscan Order in the Observant family, devoting himself to the apostolic life. The fruit of poetic experience and study is his Somma morale in the Italian language, printed in 1475 and later called Somma pacifica, highly regarded and studied. In 1471 he was sent by Sixtus IV to Sardinia to settle certain difficulties that had arisen in the Church on that island, and in 1480 he returned there as apostolic nuncio to proclaim the Crusade against the Turks. His cult was confirmed in 1745. Feast in the Order on June 8.
