PACIFICO da CERANO, blessed. - Franciscan, also called P. da Novara, born at Cerano (Novara) in 1426, died at Sassari on 4 June 1482.
He was orphaned at an early age and entrusted to the Benedictines of Novara for his first education. In 1445 he entered the Franciscan Order in the Observant family, devoting himself to the apostolic life. The fruit of poetic experience and study was his Somma morale in the Italian language, printed in 1475 and later called Somma pacifica, highly esteemed and studied. In 1471 Sixtus IV sent him to Sardinia to settle certain difficulties that had arisen in the Church on that island, and in 1480 he returned there as apostolic nuncio to proclaim the Crusade against the Turks. His cult was confirmed in 1745. Feast in the Order on 8 June.
