Palos, Diocese of

PALO, DIOCESI di. – In the Philippine Islands. The apostolic constitution of 28 November 1937 detached the island of Leyte and the adjacent islands from the diocese of Calbayog, in order to constitute the new diocese of P., suffragan of the archdiocese of the Holy Name of Jesus (Cebù).

It has a population of one million inhabitants, of whom 984,338 are Catholics. It has 55 parishes with 67 secular priests and a seminary; 14 religious in 3 houses and 14 nuns in 6 houses work in the diocese.
