PALO, DIOCESE OF. — In the Philippine Islands. The apostolic constitution of 28 November 1937 detached the island of Leyte and the adjacent islands from the diocese of Calbayog to establish the new diocese of P., a suffragan of the archdiocese of the Most Holy Name of Jesus (Cebu).
It has a population of one million, of whom 984,338 are Catholics. It comprises 55 parishes served by 67 secular priests and a seminary; 14 religious in 3 houses and 14 sisters in 6 houses labour in the diocese.
