PELLEGRINO LAZIOSI, Saint. - Born of a noble family after 1320 in Forlì, died there on 1 May 1402. Having turned to the religious life after a vision of the Virgin, he went to Siena, where he took the habit of the Servants of Mary.

Anachronistically, ancient writers would have it that he was received into the Order by St. Philip Benizi (d. 1285). Having returned to his homeland at the wish of his superiors, he led the life of a penitent, enduring with heroic patience a painful wound in one leg, from which he was then miraculously healed when the limb was about to be amputated. At his death he immediately received public veneration, later approved by Paul V in 1609; the cause was regularly introduced and Benedict XIII canonized him on 27 Dec. 1726. Feast on 1 May.
