**PEZ** (PETZ), HIERONYMUS. - Born Franz Philipp, younger brother of Bernhard and his assistant and successor, he was born on 24 February 1685 in Ybbs, entered Melk in 1703, and died there on 14 October 1762. After studies in Vienna, he became a professor at the abbey gymnasium, novice master, subprior, and, after his brother’s death (1735) until his own death, librarian. He devoted special attention to Austrian history, publishing, among many other works: *Scriptores rerum austriacarum* (3 vols., Leipzig-Ratisbon 1721-45), still useful; *Acta s. Colomani* (1713) and *Historia s. Leopoldi, Austriae marchionis* (1747).
