PEZZANI, ENRICO MARIA. – Canonist, born in Soncino (Cremona) on 24 September 1856, died in Rome on 25 August 1918. He spent most of his life in Rome, where he was professor of Canon Law at the Vatican Seminary.
He was one of those canonists who, when the work of codification was already nearing maturity, privately attempted the same undertaking; his Codex Sanctae Catholicae Romanae Ecclesiae, in 6 vols., appeared in 1906. He took part in the preparatory work for the CIC and expressed his point of view in the work: Pensieri sulla codificazione del diritto canonico. Among his works are: De celebratione sponsalium et matrimonii, Rome 1907 (a commentary on the decree Ne temere); De amotione canonica parochorum, ibid. 1910 (a commentary on the decree Maxima cura); and several Animadversiones in decisiones S. R. Rotae, 4 vols., ibid. 1909–12. He also wrote apologetic and devotional works.
