Pezzani, Enrico Maria

PEZZANI, ENRICO MARIA. - Canonist, b. at Soncino (Cremona) on 24 Sept. 1856, d. at Rome on 25 Aug. 1918. He spent most of his life in Rome, where he was professor of Canon Law at the Vatican Seminary.

He was one of those canonists who, when the work of codification was already about to mature, privately attempted the same undertaking; his Codex Sanctae Catholicae Romanae Ecclesiae in 6 vols. saw the light in 1906. He took part in the work of preparing the CIC and expressed his point of view in the writing: Pensieri sulla codificazione del diritto canonico. Among his works are remembered: De celebratione sponsalium et matrimonii, Rome 1907 (commentary on the decr. Ne temere); De amotione canonica parochorum, ibid. 1910 (commentary on the decr. Maxima cura) and some Animadversiones in decisiones S. R. Rotae, 4 vols., ibid. 1909-12. He also wrote apologetic and devotional works.
