PEZZANI, ENRICO MARIA. – Canonist, born at Soncino (Cremona) on 24 Sept. 1856, died at Rome on 25 Aug. 1918. He spent most of his life in Rome, where he was professor of Canon Law at the Vatican Seminary.
He was one of those canonists who, when the work of codification was about to mature, privately attempted the same enterprise; his *Codex Sanctae Catholicae Romanae Ecclesiae* in 6 vols. saw the light in 1906. He took part in the preparatory work for the CIC and set forth his viewpoint in the writing: *Pensieri sulla codificazione del diritto canonico*. Among his works may be recalled: *De celebratione sponsalium et matrimonii*, Rome 1907 (commentary on the decree *Ne temere*); *De amotione canonica parochorum*, 1910 (commentary on the decree *Maxima cura*) and some *Animadversiones in decisiones S. R. Rotae*, 4 vols., 1910-12. He also wrote apologetic and pious works.
