Pileo

Also known as: Latin: pileus

PILEO. - A cap of leather or cloth, from the Greek πῦος, used by the Greeks, the Etruscans and the Romans. In ancient Christian monuments it is given to Orpheus, to the three Babylonian youths and to the Magi; the two soldiers who arrest St. Peter on Christian sarcophagi wear the pileus pannonicus.
