RELIGIOUS RESEARCHES. - A monthly journal of historical-religious studies founded by E. Buonaiuti in 1925 (and condemned in the same year), after the founder had been censured in 1924. Alongside topics of a historical-critical nature, it also includes polemical elements and mystical perspectives in line with Buonaiuti’s mental orientation.
In 1934 it changed its title to *Religio*, which had previously belonged to another short-lived periodical of hierographic studies (1919–20). The publication of *R. r.* was interrupted due to the events of the Second World War, and after the founder’s death (1947), it was resumed as a quarterly organ of the Ernesto Buonaiuti Association, directed by a committee of university professors, with Dr. M. Niccoli as editorial secretary. The primary aim of the Association, free from any polemics and particular mystical views, is to disseminate scientific knowledge of the history of Christianity within the context of the religions of the Mediterranean world and to foster a growing interest in historical-religious studies in general. As of 1952, three volumes have been published.
