RIVISTA DI LETTURE. - A monthly periodical founded in Milan in 1904 under the title Bollettino delle biblioteche cattoliche through the efforts of Fr. G. Casati, also serving as the organ of the Federazione italiana delle Biblioteche cattoliche circolanti.
In 1914 it took the name R. di L. Its purpose was to provide a brief account or assessment of works of light reading, whether good or harmless, so that they might be assigned to the various groups of readers; and of dangerous or bad works, so that educators might know how properly to explain the prohibition or exclusion of certain books. Nor were the reviews confined to light reading, but they also embraced the fields of history, pedagogy, and asceticism, with more extensive articles on particular authors or series. From it derived the various reading manuals, which collected in a few remarks judgments more fully discussed in the journal concerning different authors. The R. di L. ceased publication in 1945 and was replaced in 1946 by Letture (v.).
