READING REVIEW. - A monthly periodical founded in Milan in 1904 under the title *Bollettino delle biblioteche cattoliche* by Fr. G. Casati, also serving as the official organ of the Italian Federation of Circulating Catholic Libraries.
In 1914, it adopted the name *R. di L.* Its aim was to provide concise summaries and evaluations of works of recreational reading, whether good or harmless, so that they could be recommended to various groups of readers, and to identify dangerous or harmful works so that educators could justify prohibiting and excluding certain books. The reviews were not limited to recreational reading but also covered history, pedagogy, and ascetics, including longer articles on specific authors or series. From it derived various reading manuals, which collected in brief the judgments discussed at greater length in the journal regarding different authors. The *R. di L.* ceased publication in 1945 and was replaced in 1946 by *Letture* (q.v.).

JOURNAL OF CHURCH HISTORY IN ITALY. - Launched in January 1947, it has been published regularly in quarterly installments with the aim of illustrating the most important figures and events in Italian ecclesiastical life and coordinating, through improved and updated methods, the scholarship published on the subject.
It was intended to replace the *Rivista di scienze storiche*, which had been published in Pavia under the direction of Rodolfo Maiocchi since 1904 but had been discontinued for many years. It is headed by an editorial board and directed by Mons. Michele Maccarrone; the publisher is Luigi De Luca.
