READINGS. – Monthly review of book criticism, entrusted by the Archbishop of Milan to the Jesuits in 1945 and begun in 1946.
It provides timely notice of works of fiction, literature, art, theatre, history, science, philosophy, pedagogy, and religion, with special attention to books of broad dissemination, and while summarizing their content, it takes particular and vigilant care to express an orienting moral judgment to advise or discourage reading. It also aims to stimulate a narrative art, literary in style and formative in content, that can compete with the works of narrators of differing orientations.
