SAN GIORGIO, APOSTOLIC VICARIATE of. — Situated in the northern region of Colombia.
On 12 June 1924, the territory was erected as the Apostolic Prefecture of Sinù and entrusted to the Foreign Missions of Burgos. On 12 January 1931, its name was changed to the Apostolic Prefecture of S. G., which on 10 March 1950 was elevated to an Apostolic Vicariate, still entrusted to the Institute of Burgos. It has an area of approximately 21,500 sq km and a population of approximately 100,000, overwhelmingly Catholic, but their lives too often resemble those of pagans. There are about twenty missionaries, assisted by 2 brothers and 26 sisters. Seminarians: 27; catechists: 24; schools: 148.
