The diocese has a population of 150,052 inhabitants, of whom 28,862 are Catholics, distributed in 35 parishes and 44 chapels served by 22 diocesan priests and 39 regular clergy; it has 1 seminary, 21 male religious communities and 19 female religious communities; 3 hospitals, 1 college and 1 home for the elderly (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 369).
The diocese of S. was created by Pius XI with the apostolic constitution *Ecclesiarum omnium cura* of 3 June 1933, by separation from the dioceses of Prince Albert and Regina. The first parish of S. was the parish of St Paul, established on the land purchased in 1901 by Fr J. H. Eymard. The diocese is a suffragan of Regina, and for the faithful of the Byzantine rite within it there is the Apostolic Exarchate of Saskatchewan.
