SHEBA (Heb. Šebha', "oath"?, "the seven [deities]"?). - A Benjaminite, son of Bichri (Gen. 46:21), the "pestilent man" of whom 2 Sam. 20 speaks. He stirred up the northern tribes against David (v.) just as Absalom's rebellion was drawing to a close. He traveled through all Israel as far as the extreme north to gather followers, but few paid him heed. Pursued by David's men, he shut himself up in Abel-beth-maacah, whose inhabitants, however, cut off his head and threw it to the besiegers.
