STUDIES. – Quarterly periodical, founded in Dublin in 1912 by the Jesuits of the Irish province, with the subtitle An Irish Quarterly Review of Letters, Philosophy and Science.
Taking advantage of the new regulations of the University of Dublin, the Jesuits wished to offer educated people a publication, which had not previously existed, dealing with university disciplines through articles by professors and graduates, also selected from outside the Order. The principal subjects treated are: modern universal literature; Celtic, classical and Oriental topics; questions of history, philosophy, sociology and education; and the experimental sciences. In the individual issues, these are supplemented by a bulletin of recent publications on specific subjects, notes on particular topics of academic interest, and reviews of the most important works.
