THEODORA, Wife of Theophylactus. - She appears in documents with the title of vestaratrix, which came to her from her husband, pontifical vestararius between 900 and 926.

The relations that existed between T., Theophylactus and first Pope Sergius III and then John X were interpreted in the worst possible light on the basis of Liutprand of Cremona, who speaks of her as a beautiful and immoral woman, who for that very reason had great political authority. Eugenio Vulgario, on the other hand, speaks of her as a pious and virtuous woman, but from Caesar Baronius onward Liutprand has been more believed, although it is known that he was notoriously inclined to obscene tales, than Eugenio. However matters stood, there is no certain record of individual and autonomous political actions by T.
