THADAL

THADAL (Heb. Tidh'al, Septuagint Θαργάλ). - King of the gōyim, or "of the nations," who with Amraphel (v.) of Shinar and Arioch (v.) of 'Ellāsār, under the leadership of Chedorlaomer (v.) of Elam, carried out military campaigns in Canaan with varying fortune in the time of Abraham (Gen. 14).

The name is usually connected with that of Tudhaljaš, borne by certain Hittite sovereigns, who indeed several times held such vast empires under their rule as to be able to be called "kings of the peoples": but the identification is even more difficult than for the associated kings, especially Amraphel (v.).
