CHODORLAHOMOR (Heb. Kēdhorlā'ōmer). - King of Elam, who held Palestine subject for twelve years, until it rebelled against him. He then organized an expedition against it with three kings his vassals

(v. AMRAFEL). Having reached the region of the Dead Sea and defeated various peoples, he was attacked in the valley of Siddim by the five kings of the Pentapolis, whom he crushed. But, on the way back, after a swift pursuit as far as Lais (Dan), he was routed by a surprise attack by Abraham and barely saved himself by flight, abandoning ample booty in the hands of the enemy (Gen. 14, 1-17).

The name of C. (like the others in the same passage) is not a product of fantasy, but proves to be of genuine Elamite stamp. The first part (= "servant") is found in the names of the kings Kudur-Nahhundi and Kudur-Mabug; the second part is the name of the Elamite goddess Lagamar, so that it means "servant of Lagamar." At the end of the third millennium B.C. at Larsa (= 'Ellāsār of Gen. 14, 1?) in Babylonia the Elamites held sway, and Babylonia, before the conquests of Hammurabi (v.) was their vassal.
