ADAMA (Hebrew 'Adamah). - A city of the Pentapolis (v.), named alongside Zeboiim, on the border of Canaan (Gen. 10:19). Its king Shinab, in coalition with the other kings of the Pentapolis, was defeated in the valley of Siddim by Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, aided by three other kings (Gen. 14:1-9). A. was destroyed, along with the other guilty cities, by the cataclysm that struck Sodom and Gomorrah, within whose "circle" it lay (Gen. 19:24; cf. Deut. 29:23; Hos. 11:8).
