ADAMI, ADAM. - Benedictine bishop, b. at Mülheim in 1610, d. at Hildesheim in 1663. He pursued philosophical studies at the University of Cologne and in 1628 entered the Benedictine abbey of St. Nicholas at Brauweiler. He served as rector of the seminary in Cologne and later as prior of St. James in Mainz. After the Battle of Nördlingen during the Thirty Years' War, he was tasked with defending the rights of monasteries in Swabia and Württemberg. He participated in the Congress of Westphalia and, following the peace, was sent to Rome to Pope Innocent X, from whom he obtained the title of Bishop of Hierapolis. Upon his return to his homeland, he was elected suffragan bishop of Hildesheim. His principal work is *Arcanæ pacis Westphalicae*, printed in Frankfurt in 1698.
