UMTALI, APOSTOLIC PREFECTURE OF. — It is situated in Southern Rhodesia and entrusted to the Carmelites of the Ancient Observance.
The territory comprises the civil districts of Jinyange, Makoni and Umtali, detached from the Apostolic Vicariate of Salisbury, and the civil districts of Melsetter and Chipinga, detached from that of Fort Victoria. The Apostolic Prefecture was erected on 2 February 1953. At the same time, the civil districts of Gwelo and Selukwe were detached from the Apostolic Vicariate of Salisbury and annexed to that of Fort Victoria.
