VEGHE, JOANNES. – Representative of the “devotio moderna,” born in Münster (Germany) in 1431 or 1432, died at Niesink in 1504.
In 1451 he joined the Brethren of the Common Life at Münster. In 1469 he founded the house at Rostock. In 1475 he was elected sixth rector of the mother house at Deventer, where in 1478 he built the new church. During his direction, beautiful books were transcribed. From 1481 he was rector of the nuns of the monastery at Niesink. Twenty-four sermons and four devotional treatises by V. are known, of which H. Rademacher published: Lectulus noster floridus (Hiltrop 1938).
