Veghe, Joannes

VEGHE, JOANNES. - A representative of the "devotio moderna," b. in Münster (Germany) in 1431 or 1432, d. at Niesink in 1504.

He entered the Brothers of the Common Life at Münster in 1451. In 1469 he established the house of Rostock. In 1475 he was elected sixth rector of the mother house at Deventer, where in 1478 he built the new church. During his direction very beautiful books were transcribed. From 1481 he was rector of the sisters of the monastery at Niesink. Of V. there are known 24 sermons and 4 devotional treatises, of which H. Rademacher has published: Lectulus noster floridus (Hiltrop 1938).
