VIJAYAVADA, DIOCESE of. — After India had gained independence, on 15 Aug. 1947, several Indian cities changed their names: thus Bezwuada (v.) became V.
In conformity with this change, the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, by a decree dated 21 Oct. 1950, decreed that the name of the Curia «dioecesis Bezwuadensis» be changed to «dioecesis Vijayavadensis».
