Wewak, Apostolic Vicariate of

WEWAK, APOSTOLIC VICARIATE of. — By decree of 15 May 1952, the western zone was detached from the Apostolic Vicariate of Central New Guinea and erected into the Apostolic Prefecture of Aitape, entrusted to the Australian Minors. On the same date, the Apostolic Vicariate of Central New Guinea was given the name of W., and the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern New Guinea that of Alexishafen.
