Italian original Cite

WEYNSEN (Wenssen, Wentzen), Matthias. - Flemish Franciscan, "learned theologian, famous preacher and ascetic" (Dirks), died, it appears, in 1547.

He was guardian of the convent of his Order in Antwerp and four times provincial; in that capacity he separated the Dutch Franciscans from the province of Cologne in 1529. In 1542 he was Commissary General of the Order. He published several spiritual opuscules of his confreres, among them the well-known Fasciculus myrrhae.
