WEYNSEN (WENSSEN, WENTZEN), MATTHIAS. - Flemish Franciscan, "a learned theologian, famous preacher and ascetic" (Dirks), died, it seems, in 1547.
He was guardian of the convent of his Order in Antwerp and four times provincial; in that capacity he separated in 1529 the Netherlands Franciscans from the province of Cologne. In 1542 he was Commissary General of the Order. He published several spiritual booklets of his confreres, including the well-known *Fasciculus myrrhae*.
