WOLLONGONG, DIOCESE OF. — It is situated in the State of New South Wales in Australia.
It was erected on 15 November 1951 with territory taken from the archdioceses of Sydney and Canberra-Goulburn, with which it borders, as well as the Pacific Ocean. It has an area of 4,500 square miles and a population of approximately 150,000, of whom 20,000 are Catholics served by 26 priests. In addition, there are the Fathers of the Blessed Sacrament, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, the Franciscan Fathers, the Christian Brothers, and other female religious societies. There are already 20 parishes organized.
