ZYTOMIR (ŻYTOMIERZ), DIOCESE OF. — Founded in 1321 and then united with Luck (v. LUCERNA) on 8 August 1798, it was divided again on 28 October 1925 and made a suffragan of the archdiocese of Mohilev. It depends on the Pontifical Commission for Russia.
The apostolic administrator, Msgr. Teofilo Skalski, was imprisoned for the faith on 20 June 1926 and exiled in September 1932. At the same time, the vice-administrator, Msgr. Casimiro Naskrecky, was also exiled; he had previously been imprisoned for the faith on 20 July 1929. In 1925, Z. had 66 priests, 102 churches, and 350,000 faithful. For many years it has been laid waste.
