WATERWORTH, WILLIAM. - Gesuita, n. il 22 giugno 1811 a St. Helen's (Lancashire), m. il 17 marzo 1882 a Bournemouth.
Studiò al Collegio di Stonyhurst, entrò nella Compagnia di Gesù nel 1829 ed insegnò dal 1833 in una scuola aperta dai Gesuiti a Londra. Sacerdote nel 1836, completò gli studi di teologia a Roma. Professore di teologia dogmatica al Seminario di Stonyhurst dal 1838 al 1841, parroco a Hereford fino al 1854, quindi a Londra, fu rettore al Collegio di S. Giorgio di Worcester (1857-78) e superiore della missione di Bournemouth (1880-82). Pubblicò diverse opere sulla storia ecclesiastica inglese: *England and Rome, or the history of the religious connection between England and the Holy See* (179-1534) (Londra 1854); *Origin and developments of Anglicanism* (ivi 1854); *On the gradual absorption of early anglicanism by the Popedom* (ivi 1854); *Queen Elizabeth versus the Lord Chancellor or a history of the Prayer Book of the Church of England* (ivi 1871). Scrisse anche una storia della Compagnia di Gesù (*The Jesuits*, ivi 1852) e della Chiesa irlandese (*The Church of St. Patrick*, ivi 1869).
